A North Country Lake Throughout the Seasons
Dr. Bruce Carlson has done it again - - another book on our beloved Ten Mile Lake! But this one has a unique feature. It comes with links to 75 videos of underwater film that showcase the fish and habitat of our lake.
Bruce has combined his 70 years of observations on Ten Mile Lake with his training as a scientist to provide a unique perspective. This profusely illustrated book provides a vivid picture of the seasonal changes in our lake, both above and below the water.
The videos provide a unique window into a world that is unseen by even the most avid users of Ten Mile Lake. Bruce has analyzed hundreds of hours of underwater videos over the past 30 years. This, plus his background as a fish biologist, has allowed him to illustrate the complex seasonal rhythms that take place in our lake. The book contains 180 color illustrations, is printed on high gloss paper, and is over 300 pages in length.
And it gets better: Bruce is donating the net profits from all Ten Mile Lake Association sales of this book to the TMLA! The Ten Mile Lake Association is immensely grateful for the decades of scientific and philanthropic contributions made by Dr. Bruce Carlson and his wife, Jean.
Bruce’s book, in paperback form, will be available at our annual meeting in August. You can request that the book be mailed via US Postal Service or held for pickup at the Rendezvous Brewing in Hackensack (you will receive a separate email when the book is ready for local pickup). After you receive the paper book, you will find a QR code that allows download of the full e-book with the videos. Or you can purchase and download the book in digital form (e-book only) with the videos for $22.
Testimonials:
Linda Schwartz, TMLA President: Bruce has a captivating prose that is nearly poetic. For example, “Sunset closes off one familiar window to the world, but it opens another …” He paints a picture that makes me feel the north country. I will read this book to my grandchildren with the aspiration of infecting them with my love of Ten Mile Lake!
Andy Biebl, TMLA VP: How blessed we are on Ten Mile Lake to have Bruce’s knowledge captured for all of our benefit. It would be “cabin malpractice” to not have this on the coffee table at the lake! And the e-book videos will capture the interest of your kids and grandkids.
Steve Adams, Fisheries Committee Chair: Bruce continues where he left off in his previous book with interesting and accessible descriptions of fish biology and behavior in our North Country lake. The plethora of fish videos alone is worth the price. Enjoy!
